Shout-Outs!

The Bible contains six admonishments to homosexuals and 362 admonishments to heterosexuals. That doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals. It's just that they need more supervision.

Nitin Sawhney

Just a quick post... Just got back from an interesting night. Something I wouldn't have done if I was not invited... well, was never really into any cultural/ethnic dance.

Xiaoyao performed at Victoria Theatre earlier tonight. I was very impressed by his indian dance performance! didn't know he could move like that :p I was pleasantly surprised i enjoyed myself. Have always liked indian music... i don't know why, maybe some of them just sounded so sad and heart wrenching (though i don't understand a word)... I am so inspired tonight, I have decided to post two music vids of one of my all time fave musicians, Nitin Sawhney.

He's a London based musician/composer who fused his indian classical training with jazz, drum 'n' bass, hip hop elements to stunning results. His music is intensely political, commonly approaching themes of identity, immigration, empowerment, multiculturalism, poverty and spirituality. Check out these two vids, one is a music video and another a live performance, enjoy! :

A comment from Tanuki, just helping him to post:
Gary, here's one Indian singer I love a lot, Sheila Chandra, she was born in Malaysia apparently, but blossomed in the UK. She's famous for bonecronedrone, but here's one of her recent works.

well, actually the youtube vid you posted by Sheila Chandra is a remake of a 80s classic by Monsoon, 'Ever So Lonely'. It's one of my fave songs from the 80's, frankly, i like the Monsoon version better :p

check it out, here's a live version as performed on Top of the Pops... couldn't find the music video:

well, apparently one can find just about anything on the net, here's a translation:

Nadia

Nadiya bair bhai
(Even the Rivers have turned hostile)

Mora saiyyan bulave
(My lover beckons me)

Sune nahi
(But you wouldn't listen)
