Shout-Outs!

The Bible contains six admonishments to homosexuals and 362 admonishments to heterosexuals. That doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals. It's just that they need more supervision.

Nitin Sawhney

Just a quick post... Just got back from an interesting night. Something I wouldn't have done if I was not invited... well, was never really into any cultural/ethnic dance.

Xiaoyao performed at Victoria Theatre earlier tonight. I was very impressed by his indian dance performance! didn't know he could move like that :p I was pleasantly surprised i enjoyed myself. Have always liked indian music... i don't know why, maybe some of them just sounded so sad and heart wrenching (though i don't understand a word)... I am so inspired tonight, I have decided to post two music vids of one of my all time fave musicians, Nitin Sawhney.

He's a London based musician/composer who fused his indian classical training with jazz, drum 'n' bass, hip hop elements to stunning results. His music is intensely political, commonly approaching themes of identity, immigration, empowerment, multiculturalism, poverty and spirituality. Check out these two vids, one is a music video and another a live performance, enjoy! :

Hercules & Love Affair – Blind

This is not really a music review, but just wanna share this incredible track by Hercules & Love Affair featuring the glorious vocals of Antony Hegarty of Antony & the Johnsons. Considering how some dance tunes these days can be cold & repetitive, 'Blind' is intoxicating with vocals that's incredibly moving and haunting over this dirty hypnotic basslines that reminds me of something Giorgio Moroder would have put out during the disco era (think Donna Summer's 'I Feel Love'), but this is dirtier and sleazier! This is disco heaven, music that will do some good to your soul as well as shake that ass of yours! Strange video though, but totally homo erotic! Enjoy!

A Trip to Singapore Art Museum - Primary Colours: Feng Zhengjie, 15th Mar 08

Primary Colours: Feng Zhengjie

This exhibition extends from 29 January 2008 to 20 April 2008.

Here is an excerpt from Singapore Art Museum's website about art of Feng Zhengjie:

"If the eyes are the windows to one's soul, then the art of Feng Zhengjie can be said to reveal as much as they conceal, the psyche of the self, in contemporary society. A renowned artist in the contemporary Chinese art scene, the works of Feng Zhengjie examine consumer society while engaging with a spectrum of folk art motifs and popular culture as a response to the new issues that are confronting China. This exhibition includes a special focus on his recent works of women portraits which the artist is known for. Charming, capricious and contradictory, Feng Zhengjie’s women present an ambivalent answer to the question of nature and artifice that continues to captivate. At the same time, Primary Colours is an invitation to discover the different shades of meaning in Feng’s art." - taken from Singapore Art Museum website

Medium - Tv Series (NBC)

I must say that I am not publicizing for AXN channel or for NBC, but Medium is really a pretty good series not to be missed. Its a pity they don't have this in stores (at least not locally I think) and currently only aired on the AXN channel.

So all the night shifts I've endured during the weekends didn't go to waste, as I had the opportunity to watch this series at my own leisure! (I hope my boss don't see this... well double pun intended!) But what really strike me was the really clever and amusing script thats totally unconventional and non-linear, depicting what its like to be around the "Medium", Allison Dubois's everyday life (Starred by Patricia Arquette). The perfect marriage of everyday family drama infused with the sense of supernatural "tang" really defines the genre of Mystery and suspense, and at the same time putting forth a whimsical spin to the narrative. (But that is a really general explanation of what it is about... Read more about it at NBC's website.

What makes it even more exciting is her struggle with her abilities (Which is not like what you see in Heroes...) of ESP and precognition with her career as a "consultant" for a local District Attorney. It is interesting how she got into the job as a consultant as she does not have any relevant Law Degree nor experience. So all of her talent lies in her revelations and precognitions of murders (that comes to her in her sleep as dreams) and clues she provides to the Police Department, to help solve crimes and capture mass murderers. In which she was then questioned in the eye of the Law, whether her abilities are credible and should she be recognized for her work as a consultant. There is one particular episode where she was forced to lie in court during a trial as the US Justice system will not take her claims as a legit source.

Allison Dubois is a real person living in Phoenix, Arizona in the US who wrote several books dealing with the aspects of dealing with spirits and mediumship. This series Medium, is actually inspired by her work as a Jury consultant and solving crimes for Texas Rangers and the Glendale, Arizona police department. You can read more about her here

Well I'm not so keen on reading her books, but I do recommend that if you are into the supernatural and good entertainment, Medium, Tv Series Season 1 & 2 are available on Amazon or all the other major online book stores. Here's an extended preview of the show from youtube. Enjoy!

Short Review - 10,000 B.C.

The first few thoughts that will come to my mind every time if I were to organize a movie event are whether the film is generally a well-received film, valued for its artistic values or simply just an enjoyable one. Bothering on neither sides of these thoughts, was 10,000 B.C.

For XiaoYao and some of us who actually have some general idea and knowledge about the history of the world and of evolution, the film simply filled laughing gas into our stomachs as the film progressed... and I realized that our little giggles and mini-jokes actually disturbed some really intense and focused film-goers. (I think this film has so much potential to be made into a spoof instead!)

Not to slam the film on the face too hard, generally I feel that this is by far the worst film director Roland Emmerich had ever made in his career. But nonetheless, maybe we should applaud his courage in taking up the challenge of separating Fiction with Non-fiction methods of making this film into the mainstream "Action & Adventure" genre. Why I said this is because the film generally was not accurately anchored by the facts of history or of evolution-science but more likely of a very fictional based narrative mode. Telling of a "legend" and of a "Story" handed down by generations, almost seemed very inappropriate for its film title: 10,000 B.C.?

I guess I am rather confused with this film because Roland Emmerich made some very good science-fiction films (in my opinion) like Independence Day &The Day After Tomorrow etc. and now this? Hmmm... potentially-spoofy!

(Closed) 10,000 BC - 7th Mar 08

I've written a short review of this film. You can read more about it here. - asimov_22

Post is closed... thank you all! Those who are going please meet at ticketing counter at 9:20pm. Try not to be late... :D

Labeled as an Action/Adventure flick... I'm sure nothing can go wrong with this one... here's a brief synopsis of the film:

"From director Roland Emmerich ("Independence Day," "The Day After Tomorrow") comes a sweeping odyssey into a mythical age of prophesies and gods, when spirits rule the land and mighty mammoths shake the earth.
In a remote mountain tribe, the young hunter D'Leh (Steven Strait) has found his heart's passion - the beautiful Evolet (Camilla Belle). But when a band of mysterious warlords raid his village and kidnap Evolet, D'Leh leads a small group of hunters to pursue the warlords to the end of the world to save her. As they venture into unknown lands for the first time, the group discovers there are civilizations beyond their own and that mankind's reach is far greater than they ever knew. At each encounter the group is joined by other tribes who have been attacked by the slave raiders, turning D'Leh's once-small band into an army..." - taken from the
