Welcome to TheBearProject!
We are a local gay community group where size matters. Our events aim to create a friendly environment where bears, cubs, “G-men” and other stocky and big-sized men – as well as the guys who love them – can hang out, exchange ideas and ming

We have shifted to facebook which makes things easier for us logistically. Please look for us at TheBearProject@Facebook

Shout-Outs!

The Bible contains six admonishments to homosexuals and 362 admonishments to heterosexuals. That doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals. It's just that they need more supervision.

Hey All

The first movie outing of the new year! I've been waiting for this movie for the longest time! Helped by his traveling theatre troupe, including his sarcastic and cynical sidekick Percy and versatile young player Anton, Parnassus offers audience members the chance to transcend mundane reality by passing through a magical mirror into a fantastic universe of limitless imagination. However, Parnassus' magic comes at a price. For centuries he's been gambling with the devil, Mr. Nick who is coming to collect his prize -- Parnassus' precious daughter, Valentina on her upcoming 16th birthday. Oblivious to her rapidly approaching fate, Valentina falls for Tony, a charming outsider with motives of his own. In order to save his daughter and redeem himself, Parnassus makes one final bet with Mr. Nick, which sends Tony and Valentina and the entire theatre troupe on a ride of twists and turns, in and out of London and the Imaginarium's spectacular landscape.

Trip to Haw Par Villa, Sunday, January 24, 2010, 10.30am

Let's take a walk down memory lane :) It's a place I go to many times growing up cos my aunt used to stay @ Pasir Panjang. To me it's a surreal place, both magical and scary. I hope you guys would take this trip with us.

Built in 1937 by the entrepreneurial and charismatic Aw Boon Haw for his brother Boon Par, Haw Par Villa is the quintessential house of Chinese folklore. Described by various visitors as "fascinating, delightful, bizarre and entertaining", Haw Par Villa is like no other place in the world.

Twenty-five clusters of original statues and figurines replicate Chinese mythology characters like the Laughing Buddha and the Fu Lu Shou (Taoist deities). A must-see exhibit is the Ten Courts of Hell, featuring the ten steps of judgement before reincarnation. Literal and leaving nothing to the imagination, the statues and sets immortalise moral values and Chinese cultural heritage for generations to come.

Meeting point: Haw Par Villa Entrance
(262 Pasir Panjang Road Singapore 118628)
Time: 10.30am
Admission: Free
Approximate Touring Time: 2 hours
We will go for lunch after that together, if you guys have any suggestions around that area, do let me know :)

Getting There
Take SBS Transit bus 200 from Buona Vista MRT Station (EW21), SBS Transit bus 10, 30, SMRT Bus 188 from Harbour Front Centre, SBS Transit bus 143 from Orchard Road, SBS Transit bus 51 from Chinatown or SBS Transit bus 175 from Clementi MRT Stn/Temporary Bus Interchange. Date: Sunday, 25 October 2009
Meeting time: 4:45pm (Tour starts at 5pm sharp)
Meeting location: NLB Plaza
Tickets cost: $35 per head

Singapore has some fantastic architectural spaces and every year Architours are conducted to give us a more in depth introduction to what's new and cool in our city. ArchiTours are a celebration and exploration of the city’s best buildings, streets, and spaces. TheBearProject would like to invite you to our new icons of consumption :p ... an architour of iconic designs for surprising and delighting consumers to encourage them to spend! Here's a blurb from the website at: http://www.archifest.sg/index.php/humanity/event/architours_hype_hunt/tour

"The cross into the new millennium saw a huge increase in the popularity of iconic design, as well as a wider recognition of the value of creativity in both economic and human terms. For architects, the embrace of creativity in the city is about more than producing architectural icons. It is also about designing for surprise and delight – creating architecture that brings nourishment to its occupants while also perhaps setting and reflecting trends. In this tour we seek out some places and spaces of retreat, entertainment, and recreation that have delighted their occupants. Though these are manifestations of a society of consumption, they also give something back to the people of the city." - excerpt from ArchiFest 2009 website

Seats are going fast, so I will close this event by 18th October 5pm so please sign up fast for those who are interested. Thanks!
