The Bible contains six admonishments to homosexuals and 362 admonishments to heterosexuals. That doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals. It's just that they need more supervision.

(Closed) No Country For Old Men, 2nd Mar 08

Due to poor participation I've decided to close this event... Sorry guys. - Asimov_22

Our movie outing for this weekend is No Country For Old Men, which won Best Motion Picture of the Year in the Oscars and several other awards. Below is a short summary of the film.

"NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, the Coen Brothers have found a perfect match in Pulitzer Prize-winning author Cormac McCarthy. Their adaptation of McCarthy's praised novel is a staggering masterpiece. In this almost impossibly faithful adaptation, the film takes place in a small Texas border town in 1980. Sheriff Bell (a never-been-better Tommy Lee Jones) has ruled the land for years without the use of a gun, but a new brand of reckless lawlessness has taken over his town. Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin) is an innocent Everyman with a devoted wife, Carla Jean (Kelly Macdonald), but when he stumbles across a drug deal gone deadly and finds two million dollars, he's determined to keep it for himself. There's only one problem. He's being pursued by one of the most amoral, evil psychopaths that the big screen has ever seen. Wearing an absurd haircut and brandishing a pressurized weapon that's used to murder cattle, Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem) creeps forward on his mission to track Moss down and return the money to its rightful owners to save his own skin. As the tension mounts, the body count begins to rise, confirming Sheriff Bell's inability to battle this new wave of modern brutality." - Excerpt taken from GV wesite

Bharatanatyam, Victoria Theatre, 29th Mar 08

XiaoYao, our resident member will be performing a classical south indian dance Bharatanatyam at Victoria Theatre on the 29th March. Here is what he has to say!

"Hi guys, as you may have heard already, I'll be performing Bharatanatyam at the Victoria Theatre on 29 Mar at 7 pm. Bharatanatyam, in case you're wondering, is a form of classical South Indian dance that depicts the mystic manifestation of the metaphysical element of fire in the human body (no, I won't be running around coconut trees like they do in those Bollywood movies  ). I'll be performing an item dedicated to Lord Ganesha (you know, that one with the elephant head) with the rest of my class. If you're interested in catching my performance (that is, if my big tummy doesn't scare you away :P), tickets are at $10 each. Seats are extremely limited, thanks to the kiasu parents of the Indian girls also performing, so please let me know whether you want to come or not by Fri, 29 Feb. No, no matter what VitalAuto says, I'm still not going in drag to perform." - XiaoYao

Date: 29th March 08 (Saturday)

Time: 7pm

Venue: Victoria Theatre

Ticket Price: $10 each

Here's a URL of a clip from YouTube showing how this dance looks like... (You can imagine him with his ankle-bells and bouncing tummy  No offense...)

American Idol Season 7 - Week One

People who know me would know that I LOVE AMERICAN IDOL! So i'm starting this weekly thread. Would like to hear what the rest of you guys think about it. This season is pretty good so far, quite a good group of talents. I have not spotted one that's really bad like previous seasons... think Anthony Fedorov from season 4, Kevin "Chicken Little" Corvais from season 3 and definitely Sanjaya Malakar from season 6. However this season, no one has really blown me away so far like Fantasia, Melinda Doolittle, Jennifer Hudson or Elliot Yamin from previous seasons. Well, a few come close, I really like David Archuleta for the guys and Ramiele Malubay for girls. Frankly judging from the past weeks, I'm going to make an early prediction that David is going to win this season unless he really screws it up later.

After the first week with the 60's theme, here's my faves:
Top 3 guys: David Archuleta, Michael Johns, Jason Castro (Danny Noriega comes close... think he has the voice and talent, just chose the wrong song this week... someone to look out for... plus he's gay and proud of it!)
Top 3 girls: Ramiele Malubay, Carly Smithson, Alaina Whitaker

What do you think? Hope to hear your comments! :p Here I have embedded my two fave performances of this week. Enjoy!

TheBearProject's Charity Event - The Discussion Continues

...and so we sat down one fine day for a serious discussion of this event (Finally) and we got stuck at the targeted beneficiaries part... which we thought it is only fair that we leave this issue open to you guys! The idea of this event is to raise funds/money for a specific beneficiary. Our targeted beneficiary will not necessarily be a PLU/Gay cause like A.F.A., rather we are opening up our options to reach out to even old folks homes or orphanages (& of course SPCA which... *ahem* is for animals...)

By that, we will raise our funds through an Art Sale. It will be somewhat similar to a "Bake sale" of sorts, only that the art pieces (or crafts) will be displayed/exhibited with a minimum price and those who are interested will have to bid to top the existing prices, so on & so forth.

As for the art pieces, we have come up with a list of people who can contribute their creations. Those who have your artistic talents hidden away from the face of the earth, this is your chance to step forth and contribute something! Examples of art pieces you can contribute are handicrafts, clay figurines, photography (framed), paintings (oil, acrylic, collages etc all framed), digital graphic collages etc etc and the list is endless! USE YOUR IMAGINATION... and see how creative you can go! (I will sent aside another separate post for this)

There will be a panel of Art "curators" which will then decide on which pieces will go for the auction, which pieces won't and how much the minimum bid for the particular piece will be. Those pieces not sold (or didn't make it through the selection process) will then be put on eBay to be sold off. The money will still be sent to the designated beneficiary.

What we will need from you now will be your inputs on which beneficiaries the collected funds will go to. Feel free to comment below in the comment box.

Please state:

- Name of Beneficiary (eg. Ren Ci Hospital & Medicare Center etc.)

- Reasons why we should donate the money to them. (It can be any reason, like because you have volunteered there before and you noticed their lack of funds and donation from the public or you simply like them)

From the inputs we get from all of you guys, the committee will then limit down to one beneficiary that will receive the money. But of course, there will be some research and advising involved to determine which one. Till we can get down to work on the art projects, we must get this out of the way first or at least keep the ball rolling. Once again I must say your inputs will be valued and appreciated.

Thank you very much!

Chinese New Year Yu-Sheng Pot Luck, 16th Feb 2008 (Saturday)

Happy Lunar New Year to all!

Just wanna announce that there will be a CNY Yu-sheng pot luck party involving other local PLU community groups like ADLUS etc. This event was extended to us at TheBearProject from saltwetfish himself. Thank you so much :D This will be a good opportunity for us to know more people from other groups and exchange ideas.

Its a pot luck party, so everyone going would have to play a part. So far we haven't got a confirm list of what we should bring but I deduced should be mostly carbo-food (as the other groups are already bringing other things).

Date: 16th Feb '08 (Saturday)
Time: 7:30pm
Location: 54 Rowell Road (See map attached)

As for the food to bring, it will depend on how many people will be going. So if you're interested, please RSVP by this coming Thursday 14th Feb. (Sorry I know its abit rush...)

Thank you all!

JUMPER, 15 February 2008

A new film by the director, Doug Liman ("The Bourne Identity", "Mr & Mrs Smith" and "Go"), Jumper stars Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker of "Attack of the Clone" & "Revenge of the Sith"). If you have seen the trailer, I'm sure you'll agree it looks great! I'm really looking forward to this sci-fi action flick!

A genetic anomaly allows a young man to teleport himself anywhere. He discovers this gift has existed for centuries and finds himself in a war that has been raging for thousands of years between "Jumpers" and those who have sworn to kill them.

So hope you guys can join us! Please reply by 13 February, Wednesday, 6pm. I expect it to sell really fast!

TheBearProject's Charity Event - The Discussion Continues

TBP's Charity Committee:
  • Asimov_22
  • VitalAuto
  • Universek
  • Balenciaga
  • Odac
  • Stonedwin
  • Martinn
Tentatively this is the main committee. Those who wish to help can let me or VitalAuto know personally or email to thebearproject@gmail.com, either way. (Erm, thae order of the names you see above has no hierarchical meaning.)

Committee members, I'll be organizing a meeting very soon. Somewhere in the week of 17th Feb onwards. Will email you guys for the details!

Ok we should finally get to work on this, as it was pushed around for the longest time and we haven't really got the time to sit down and seriously discuss and work things out.

Recently there has been an event that generated much interests and kinda kicked started this whole talk again. It was the MAAD @ Red Dot Museum (which I missed, sadly). Though the idea wasn't new for us anymore, I realized there were many artists and creative people amongst our friends and I thought an Art Sale or Auction of such would be good.

Tentative Date for this event is set in May or in June 2008, depending on how fast we can get our ass working on it...

Meanwhile, I call out to all those who have ideas or interest in creating figurines (from clay etc.), hand-made crafts or trinkets, or those who wish to donate your toy collection for charity. Of course if you have any other good ideas and want to share with us, please post your comments or email us.
