Back for the month of April is this series of open-air free screenings held outside the main entrance of the National Museum under a banyan tree; you can’t miss it. Two of our favourite movie classics are ripe for the picking.
Like Chaplin’s The Kid or E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, The Wizard of Oz simply lays bare primal emotions, exposes our childhood anxieties about abandonment and powerlessness, and brings to light the tension between the repressive comforts of home and the liberating yet terrifying unknown marking all our adult lives.

" In Making Things Perfectly Queer: Interpreting Mass Culture, Alexander Doty interprets Dorothy's journey as a young lesbian's search for identity. The female characters she encounters represent the extremes of identity, with Auntie Em and Glinda representing the traditional and the feminine, while Almira Gulch and the Wicked Witch of the West represent the butch. The Wizard of Oz has particular significance for the gay and lesbian community. The rainbow flag was first used in the 1978 San Francisco Gay and Lesbian Freedom Day Parade. The rainbow flag has connotations of diversity and multicuilturalism, but perhaps the most important association with this symbol is with Judy Garland, who sang "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" in The Wizard of Oz and has become such an icon for the gay community."

ok lah... i've seen a few times liao... but if Universek is keen, we could do a picnic thingy :)
I'll be bringing some makan along, but would you want to meet earlier for dinner? It starts at 8pm, there should be plenty of seating available, so we don't have to chope ...
Remember the Vietnamese restaurant Pho Lan along Prinsep street? We can do dinner there at 7pm? It's affordable and good.
